Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 Adds Maps, Modes and DMZ Facility on November 6

Season 1 brings a broad set of new activities to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on November 6. Multiplayer gets three maps and two returning modes at launch, while DMZ adds the X01 weapons facility and its own challenges. Two more maps and a new mode are planned for mid-season, alongside two additional Warzone maps and a Battle Pass with more than 100 unlockable items.

Modern Warfare 4 Season 1: Everything you need to know for November 6 launch

The update’s appeal rests on variety: familiar competitive formats return, new locations offer different terrain to navigate, and DMZ players get a maze built around coordination and escape. Here’s what’s been announced so far.

Three Multiplayer maps arrive at launch

Backstab is a war-torn setting under poor weather, with abandoned tanks and a deserted dwelling among its details. The conditions and clutter give players features to read as they move through the map. Canyon offers a different kind of route planning, setting battles among high rock walls, a river, and winding paths. Players can try the River near the Convoy Ambush or take the Cliff Path.

The third addition is a reimagined Shoot House, placed in North Korea’s rugged terrain during a snowfall. Its return gives players a refreshed version of a familiar map, while the snow and surrounding landscape change the setting. The announcement doesn’t detail how the redesign alters its layout, so players will have to see how the updated space plays once the season begins.

Two modes also return at launch. In Grind, players collect dog tags after eliminating opponents, then bring them to the Bank to score for their team. That extra objective turns each elimination into a decision about whether to keep pressing or secure points. Drop Zone asks teams to hold one rotating objective while Killstreak packages periodically arrive by air. Its changing location and timed packages give both teams reasons to shift position as the match develops.

Mid-season adds maps and an objective mode

The mid-season update is set to add Ministry and Overflow, along with Counter Attack. Ministry centers on fighting in and around a building during a summit, with damage to the surrounding site described as part of the setting. Overflow moves the action to a factory and nearby farmland, pairing industrial space with more open ground.

Counter Attack gives teams an objective to attack and one to defend: players must detonate bombs at the opposing Comm Station while protecting their own. That two-sided goal puts pressure on teams to divide their attention and coordinate their moves. More details about the mid-season additions aren’t provided, but the mix of new environments and a new objective offers a clear change of pace from the launch lineup.

X01 makes escape part of the DMZ challenge

DMZ’s major new location is X01, a previously undiscovered weapons facility now held by enemy forces. Its maze of tunnels and shifting hazards makes preparation central to a deployment. Players will need specialized equipment and squad coordination to handle the facility’s dangers and make progress through its interior.

Extraction is a key part of the challenge. As X01 begins closing off extraction points, squads must complete the required steps to escape before their routes disappear. That gives each run a changing point of pressure: exploring for equipment and completing tasks have to fit around the need to get out. The announcement also promises new and powerful equipment inside the facility, though it doesn’t name those items.

Other DMZ additions include multiple pages of DMZ Orders to complete within X01, Threat Briefing missions focused on major boss threats such as Commanders, and Resupply Runs. Together, these activities give squads several reasons to return to the facility, from working through Orders to tackling powerful opponents. How the shifting hazards interact with individual missions should help determine whether each deployment calls for a quick objective run or a more careful push deeper inside.

Warzone gets two new maps

Season 1 adds Hajin and Zodiac to Call of Duty: Warzone. The update is also set to bring additional modes and gameplay features, but the available details stop there. More information, including a full Season 1 roadmap for Warzone, is expected later. For now, the two named maps are the clearest sign of what players can expect from that part of the update.

Battle Pass weapons and a catch-up system

The Season 1 Battle Pass adds the Cronen Osprey Assault Rifle and CSG-35 SMG. The Cronen Osprey is described as a fast, reliable rifle with moderate power, while the CSG-35 is built for close-range fights and has the highest fire rate in its class. The descriptions point to different roles: a quicker-moving rifle for frontline use and a rapid-firing option at short distances.

The pass contains more than 100 unlockable items, including Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, Finishing Moves, and other rewards along a linear, 100-tier track. A new catch-up system is intended to help players who purchase the premium pass and fall behind: they’ll be automatically brought up to the reward matching the current day of the season, up to day 50. Players can log in to collect rewards and continue progressing by playing.

With the launch maps and modes arriving November 6, followed by more Multiplayer content mid-season, Season 1 spreads its additions across several ways to play. The details to watch next are the full Warzone roadmap and how X01’s closing extraction routes shape squad decisions once players enter the facility.
