FF14 Keybound Brawler Brings Final Fantasy 7 Remake Challenges and Rewards
FF14’s new Gold Saucer event pairs Final Fantasy 7 themed typing battles with outfits, music and a Magitek Scorpion mount.

FF14’s first Keybound Brawler event gives the Manderville Gold Saucer a new way to revisit Final Fantasy 7: players tackle typing challenges themed around the Remake trilogy, with a lineup of character gear, music and collectibles to earn. The event began October 28, 2026, and is set to run until the launch of patch 8.0, currently scheduled for January 2027.

The format puts keyboard skill at the center. In solo play or groups of up to four, participants face familiar Final Fantasy 7 locations and enemies, including Shinra soldiers, by typing themed words and names. That makes spelling part of the challenge: terms such as Curaga, Aerith Gainsborough and Quetzalcoatl are among the examples. Console players can use a USB keyboard, which may already be handy for chatting in the MMORPG.
A new Gold Saucer activity with room to grow
Keybound Brawler is a limited-time Gold Saucer feature that will appear during set periods, much like the Fall Guys event. Its first run draws on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, but game director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has said the activity was built to support other themes. Future editions could bring in different games or media, though there’s no promise that this version’s designs will return. The rewards vendor is available only while the event is live, giving players a clear window to collect its items.
That flexibility is the more interesting part of the design. A themed typing activity can use recognizable names, settings and enemies without needing to change the core format each time. For this first edition, the Final Fantasy 7 material gives players plenty of familiar words to type; later themes could give the same activity a different feel. For now, though, the available theme and rewards are tied to this run.

Outfits, music and a new mount
The reward set combines character items with collectibles connected to the activity. Players can earn full outfits modeled on Tifa and Barret’s classic looks, plus Barret’s distinctive gatling-gun arm as a fashion accessory that can be fired. Three Orchestrion Rolls unlock the Final Fantasy 7 Gold Saucer music, the battle theme “Let the Battles Begin,” and the boss track “Fight On.” The other rewards include a Wind-up Barret minion, a Magitek Scorpion mount, a Framer’s Kit and an emote themed around Keybound Brawler.
There’s one frustrating limit on the clothing: the Tifa and Barret sets remain gender-locked. That restriction puts a damper on a reward collection otherwise built around recognizable character looks, especially for players who want to style their character with gear from either set. The event’s other items offer more variety, but they don’t address that limitation.
How to join the event
To start, find the Catlike Mammet in the Gold Saucer’s main entrance hall at coordinates x:5.4, y:7.0. The mammet offers the quest “Keyward Bound,” which leads to Wonder Square. From there, Miqo’te attendant W’zazanh directs players to a special hub modeled after the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The hub is where players can enter matches and visit the vendor to exchange MGC, the event’s currency, for rewards.

Players who haven’t unlocked the Gold Saucer can reach it after advancing the main story to the point where they visit the three major cities and reaching level 15. In Ul’dah, speak to the Well-heeled Youth just outside the main Aetheryte Plaza to take the quest “It Could Happen to You,” which leads to the venue. That means the activity is available to characters relatively early in their progress, provided they’ve reached those story and level requirements.

The event’s end date is linked to patch 8.0, which is currently expected sometime in January 2027. FF14 hasn’t shared an exact date for the Evercold expansion. Fanfest Tokyo, the final major stop on the expansion’s promotional tour, is due to take place this weekend, and players can look for further details there on the redesigned weekly progression system, battle content improvements and the second new job. Keybound Brawler gives players a reason to visit the Gold Saucer now, while Evercold’s eventual arrival sets the longer horizon for this first run.
Event details
The first Keybound Brawler run began Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and lasts until patch 8.0 launches, currently scheduled for January 2027. For players drawn by the Final Fantasy 7 theme, the most practical next step is to unlock the Gold Saucer, begin “Keyward Bound” and check the vendor’s selection before the event ends. The typing matches add a different kind of activity to the venue, while the time-limited rewards make this opening edition worth a visit even for players who are mainly there for the gear and music.
