Death Stranding Isolations Teaser Reveals an Original Story Set After the First Game

Death Stranding Isolations will take the series’ fractured world in a new direction: its teaser introduces a young woman who has chosen solitude, even as events begin pulling her back toward other people. The animated series is set in North America just after the first Death Stranding, and is scheduled to arrive on Disney+ and Hulu in 2027.

A story beyond Sam’s journey

The series takes place after Sam, the first game’s protagonist, reconnects North America through the Chiral Network. That effort gives the continent a way to rebuild its ties, but Isolations centers on the consequences that follow for people whose lives don’t fit neatly into Sam’s path.

Its central character is a girl whose mother “became a crater,” as the teaser’s synopsis puts it. The Death Stranding brought the dead into contact with the living and triggered catastrophic explosions. In the aftermath, the girl is left to live in isolation. What begins as a condition imposed on her becomes a preference: she turns away from chances to connect and lets fate carry her forward.

That setup gives the series a personal entry point into the franchise’s familiar themes of separation and connection. Sam’s work helped link communities across a damaged continent. This story asks what connection means to someone who has come to reject it, and what might change when circumstances make that choice harder to maintain. The teaser doesn’t explain how the girl’s story will unfold; it does establish that chance encounters will push her into a world she no longer recognizes.

New characters in a familiar world

The girl isn’t the only character following a different course. The synopsis also describes an older man who connects people by an unusual method, a female soldier caught in a repeating cycle of destruction, and a boy consumed by anger at the absurdity of his life. These brief sketches suggest an ensemble whose experiences will sit alongside the original game’s events, rather than simply retelling Sam’s journey from a new angle.

That distinction matters for a series set immediately after the first game. The Chiral Network has changed the shape of life in North America, but reconnecting the continent hasn’t settled every conflict or made its people feel less alone. Isolations appears interested in the gaps between a world that can communicate and individuals who still struggle to reach one another. The teaser offers a premise and character outlines, leaving the precise links among these stories to be revealed later.

Hand-drawn animation from E&H Production

Japanese studio E&H Production is making the series, with Takayuki Sano directing and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima serving as executive producer. The studio’s previous work includes Ninja Kamui, Bullet/Bullet, and the television series Magic Knight Rayearth. The teaser describes Isolations as hand-drawn animation, giving the project a visual approach distinct from the games’ presentation.

The new teaser debuted at Kojima Productions’ 10th Anniversary Exhibition Beyond the Strand. The series had been first revealed last year; this footage adds a clearer outline of its characters and setting. No episode count or more specific release date was included in the details provided.

More Death Stranding adaptations ahead

Isolations is one of three planned screen projects based on the series. An animated film, Death Stranding: Mosquito (a working title), is also in development, alongside a live-action film from A24. The projects point to several different ways of extending the setting, while this anime has the clearest premise so far: an original story about the cost of isolation in a society trying to reconnect.

For players catching up on the games, reviews are available for the first Death Stranding and its 2025 sequel. Kojima Productions is also developing Physint, a stealth espionage game. For now, the 2027 anime’s teaser makes its strongest promise through its central tension: a character who wants no ties to the outside world may be forced to find her way back into it.
