Mann Versus Zombies Brings Team Fortress 2 Into Endless Horde Survival

Breadworks’ TF2 mod pairs barricade defense, perk drinks and weapon upgrades with solo and eight-player co-op. It’s targeting early 2027.

Mann Versus Zombies Brings Team Fortress 2 Into Endless Horde Survival

Mann Versus Zombies takes the familiar cast and maps of Team Fortress 2 into a survival mode built around one question: how long can a team hold out? A new gameplay trailer offers a closer look at the community-made project, which is targeting an early 2027 release. Its mix of barricade repairs, wall-mounted weapons and upgrade stations draws a clear line to Call of Duty Zombies, while TF2’s setting gives the mode its own visual identity.

Team Fortress 2 mod Mann Versus Zombies looks so good it could almost be official - The Heavy and Medic hold out against undead hordes.

Developer Breadworks first revealed the project earlier this year. The latest trailer is a welcome sign of progress after several months of work, and the early 2027 target gives players a window to look toward. It’s a total-conversion mod: rather than adding a small side activity to a standard TF2 match, Mann Versus Zombies reshapes the shooter’s locations and play around waves of undead.

The survival loop will feel familiar to fans of the genre. Players can purchase weapons from marked plates on walls, repair barricades to slow advancing enemies, and pick up perk-granting drinks from vending machines. A station called the Mannifester lets players improve their equipment, adapting the Pack-A-Punch concept to TF2’s world. Together, these systems give a run several jobs to juggle: keep the defenses standing, manage available resources and decide when to strengthen the team’s firepower.

An endless run built around teamwork

Mann Versus Zombies takes its name from Mann vs Machine, TF2’s existing survival mode, but sets a different goal. There’s no final wave to clear. The hordes keep coming, so each run becomes a test of how long players can keep a defense intact and respond as pressure builds. Breadworks sums up the premise this way: “The onslaught of hordes never stops, and neither should you.”

That endless structure puts weight on the small decisions made during a run. Repairing barricades buys time, while weapon upgrades and perk drinks offer ways to improve a team’s chances. The source material doesn’t spell out how quickly the challenge escalates or how the game handles a failed run, so those details remain to be seen. For now, the central appeal is clear: players keep coordinating and managing resources for as long as they can survive.

The weapon selection also steps beyond TF2’s familiar arsenal. Breadworks says many options take inspiration from real-world firearms, spanning tactical rifles and tools designed to control crowds. That change gives the mod room to build a survival-focused arsenal around its wave-based structure, while its maps, characters and machines remain tied to TF2’s distinctive style.

Solo runs, eight-player co-op and Workshop support

Players will be able to go alone or team up with as many as seven others, for groups of up to eight. That range could make the mode work for both a solo endurance challenge and a coordinated session with friends. The developer’s stated emphasis on teamwork fits the core loop: players need to share the work of defending positions, managing supplies and keeping barricades repaired as the undead press in.

Workshop support gives the community tools to extend the experience with custom maps and cosmetic skins. Players can also bring over fashion they’ve unlocked in the base game. Those options connect the mod to one of TF2’s long-running strengths: a community that creates and shares content around the game. Custom maps could give future runs new places to learn and defend, while cosmetics let players carry their existing character choices into the mode.

The trailer’s polished presentation gives the project a cohesive feel, but the important test will be how its systems work together across a full run. Endless survival modes depend on a steady rhythm between threats, upgrades and defensive work. Mann Versus Zombies has the recognizable pieces in place; its mix of TF2 maps, familiar co-op roles and genre staples should give players plenty to evaluate when they can get their hands on it.

Mann Versus Zombies is scheduled to release in early 2027. It’s listed on Steam, where players can add it to their wishlist to follow updates. The mod requires Team Fortress 2, which is free to play on Steam. Breadworks’ advice for a run is direct: “Every second counts when you're surrounded. Work together with your teammates, manage your resources, and repair barricades to keep the defenses standing.” The next milestone to watch is whether the team can turn that promising loop into a lasting co-op challenge ahead of its target window.
