Ark: Survival Ascended Giganotosaurus Update Sets Nov. 5 Return
The Giganotosaurus gets a major refresh on Nov. 5, alongside Ark: Survival Ascended’s Unreal Engine 5.8 transition.

The Giganotosaurus is getting a fresh look and renewed threat in Ark: Survival Ascended on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Studio Wildcard’s third planned Tender Loving Care update for the survival game puts one of its most imposing creatures back in focus, arriving on the same day as the game’s long-delayed move to Unreal Engine 5.8.

The timing marks eleven years since the Giganotosaurus first appeared in Ark: Survival Evolved. Its return is part of a series of creature refreshes shaped by the Survival Ascended player community during Extra Life 2025. Earlier updates in the series gave new attention to the Araneo and Therizinosaurus; now the studio is turning to a predator known for making even established survivors think twice about where they travel.

A familiar predator with a new presence
Studio Wildcard describes the refreshed Giganotosaurus as having “a fearsome new look and renewed ferocity,” with the aim of restoring its standing at the top of the food chain. The studio also warns that even experienced survivors may rethink their path when they spot the creature turning toward them. That promise sets expectations around both its appearance and its role in the world: this update is meant to make an already dangerous animal feel like a major encounter again.
The Giga’s appeal has always been easy to read. Its straightforward attacks—bites, stomps and tail slams—can inflict devastating damage, making it a powerful ally for players who manage to tame one. That simplicity is part of its identity: the danger comes from scale and force, rather than a complicated set of tricks. The refresh is expected to preserve that clear, heavy-hitting role while giving the creature a more intimidating presentation.
For anyone trying to tame one, the studio’s language points to a familiar bargain: the payoff is considerable, but the approach demands care. The Giganotosaurus is not framed as a routine addition to a collection. Its refreshed form is meant to command respect from survivors whether they’re trying to avoid it or bring it under their control.

Unreal Engine 5.8 arrives with the creature update
The November 5 release also brings Ark: Survival Ascended to Unreal Engine 5.8. The transition had been scheduled for late September before being pushed back more than once so Studio Wildcard could polish the update. The studio says it has reached 99.9% mod compatibility and is working through the remaining edge cases.
That compatibility figure matters to players who rely on mods as part of their regular game experience. A change to the engine can affect how existing creations work, so the studio’s stated progress offers a useful sign of where the transition stands. The remaining work suggests that some details still need attention, while the November date now places the engine change alongside the Giga refresh.
For players, those two changes serve different interests. The creature update puts a familiar threat back in the spotlight; the engine move is a broader technical shift that may shape how the game runs and how its mod scene carries forward. Their shared release date makes November 5 a significant point in the game’s calendar, with the Giganotosaurus providing the most visible reason to return.
Enigmasaur follows the next day
Another creature arrives close behind. The Enigmasaur is set to wrap up Ark: Fantastic Tames Season 1 on Friday, November 6. The insect-loving lizard can shapeshift to imitate other creatures, taking on different abilities depending on the form it assumes. Studio Wildcard hints that some traits may remain hidden beneath a copied appearance, including the prospect of a Rex with a scorpion’s sting.

Adding the Enigmasaur to a crew will take preparation. Players must first tame several of the creatures it likes to imitate, then buy the Fantastic Tames Season 1 DLC. The pack includes the Burrowbuck, Cerberax and Enigmasaur. It is listed at $7.99 / £5.99, with a 20% sale running until Sunday, November 8.
The two releases give Ark: Survival Ascended a busy pair of days: the Giganotosaurus refresh and engine transition on November 5, followed by a shape-changing creature on November 6. The Giga is the main draw for players who want a more imposing version of a classic apex predator, while Enigmasaur offers a more tactical addition built around borrowed forms. How the engine update handles the final compatibility edge cases will be another detail for mod users to watch as the new version arrives.
