Warframe Tau Expansion Reveals Perita, Fornax and Brysko’s Abilities
Warframe’s free Tau update arrives in December with two explorable regions, new damage options, returning Prime sets and frame 67, Brysko.

Warframe’s Tau expansion is shaping up as both a new destination and a fresh set of reasons to revisit the game’s buildcraft. The free update, due in December 2026, adds a separate star chart with distinct regions, new damage combinations and a route to farm ten Prime sets that are being brought back permanently. It also introduces Brysko, Warframe number 67, whose companion can help bring him back from a defeat.

Digital Extremes shared the details during Devstream 198, showing portions of Perita and Fornax and walking through Brysko’s kit. The team is holding back story details because the trip to Tau is closely tied to the narrative. Creative Director Rebecca Ford said they would “do our best to avoid as many spoilers as possible.” The exact launch date is due in the November Devstream. Players will need to complete the Prologue to Tau first; Community Director Megan Everett described that as being up to date on the game’s content.

Two regions, two different kinds of danger
Tau starts with Perita and Fornax on its own star chart. Perita’s World Cedar Oasis, where the Cleaving Glaive syndicate has established itself, will serve as the starting hub. Ford described it as “an oasis in what has become of this environment,” and noted that player actions in The Old Peace have changed the area. That gives the setting a visible connection to what players have already done in the story.
The region is built around familiar Warframe structure: an explorable environment with several mission types, including returning classics. The devstream showed a mission currently called Codename Sandstorm Survival. Its storm is an active hazard that damages players as they move through it. Ford said the team is experimenting with environmental state changes to show how Perita has developed. That could make the new region feel different from a sequence of missions set against an unchanging backdrop, though the stream offered only an early look at the system.
Fornax brings a sharper edge. It’s a ring-city described as mafia-riddled, and the team showed Manifold 90-BF, a location connected to a group within the Fornax syndicate. Ford also confirmed that falling off the map there will kill the player character. The warning suggests the area’s layout is meant to make its hazards matter, rather than rescue players with an automatic return to safety.
Manifold 90-BF is the second of three Tau hub regions shown so far. The first, Lastbloom Lounge, was revealed during Tennocon. The devstream didn’t detail the third hub, leaving more of Tau’s social and exploration spaces to be revealed later.

New damage combinations and a long-term relic source
The Tau update adds damage types that can combine with Impact, Puncture and Slash, Warframe’s three IPS damage types. Design Director Pablo Alonso said the combinations will create new status effects, and that players will find mods in Tau that add Tau damage to weapons. He expects the system to feel a little different from elemental modding, with more details to come. The team also has buffs planned for existing IPS mods, which Alonso said would be covered in Devstream 199.
For players still collecting older Primes, the update brings ten Prime sets out of the vault permanently and makes their relics farmable in Perita. That changes the wait for these sets: players won’t have to depend on a rotation that might take years to return them. The devstream didn’t name the ten sets, so that list remains to come.
Brysko puts survival in his companion’s paws
Brysko’s defining feature is his passive. If he falls in battle, his Hound companion can revive him, turning a downed state into a brief change in how the player moves through combat. The companion also plays a direct role in his second ability, which sends it to levitate a group of enemies and spread damage among them.
His first ability throws a deck of cards that deals heavy electric damage. The third ability is built around escalating risk: it damages Brysko over time while granting lifesteal on ability damage and increasing his output. Alonso described three levels of commitment. One cast offers a modest health return and lower risk; further casts increase both the damage Brysko takes and the damage he deals. Push it too far and he can fall, leaving players to control the Hound as it collects cores and brings them back to revive him.

Corecracker, Brysko’s ultimate, is a powerful hand cannon. Its alternate fire empties the magazine in one rapid burst, and each kill spawns a core that attacks nearby enemies. His parts will be earned through the new Tau quest chain, tying access to the frame to progression through the expansion. Brysko’s mix of companion play, self-inflicted risk and burst damage gives him a distinctive loop; the key question is how comfortably players can manage that risk in live missions.
Warframe’s free Tau expansion launches in December 2026. Devstream 199 is scheduled for Friday, November 27, when Digital Extremes plans to share more about the update, including the IPS changes. For now, the clearest draw is a new star chart that combines hazardous missions, a lasting source for older Prime relics and a frame whose companion is part of both his combat plan and his recovery.
