Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 Adds Maps, Modes and a 100-Tier Battle Pass

Modern Warfare 4’s first season arrives just weeks after launch, with a broad set of additions for multiplayer and DMZ. Season 1 begins Friday, November 6, bringing three maps, returning modes, new operators and a 100-tier battle pass. Two Halloween modes arrive ahead of the main update, starting October 29.

That quick first-season rollout gives players several ways to change up their matches without waiting for the mid-season update. The roadmap also points to more maps and modes later in the season, while details on Warzone are still due separately. Here’s what Infinity Ward has outlined so far.

Halloween modes arrive before Season 1

Possession launches Thursday, October 29. In this party mode, eliminating an enemy sends you straight to the position where they were standing. That sudden move can put you close to an objective, but it can also leave you exposed when you arrive. The mode’s appeal looks to be in that quick change of position: winning a fight may immediately set up the next one, with little time to check what’s waiting nearby.

On Friday, October 30, Infected returns. Players on the infected side must take out survivors and add them to their ranks. The mode’s shifting teams give the match a different rhythm from a standard team fight, as survivors face a growing threat over the course of the round. Together, the two limited-time additions offer a short lead-in to the larger season update.

Three maps lead the multiplayer update

Season 1’s regular multiplayer rotation starts with three medium-sized maps. Backstab puts players in a town marked by fighting. Canyon uses towering rock formations to channel encounters through narrow routes, making sightlines and movement through its corridors central to a match. Shoot House brings back a familiar layout in a North Korean setting.

The map pool is set to grow again with the mid-season Reloaded update. Ministry moves the action to a Global Peace Summit, while Overflow centers on a factory and the farmland around it. Those settings give the later additions distinct spaces to fight through, though the roadmap doesn’t yet provide further layout or mode details for either map.

Kill Block also comes to Crash during Season 1. The feature uses three fixed slabs that stay in the same positions between rounds. Infinity Ward says it selected those placements based on popular combinations from the MW4 beta, giving players a set of familiar configurations to learn and anticipate. Meanwhile, Shipment has already returned and is playable now.

Returning modes and a new 1v1 format

Three modes are planned for the season. Grind returns with a familiar objective: collect Dog Tags from defeated opponents and deposit them in one of two banks to score. Drop Zone asks teams to control a point that shifts regularly. Killstreak packages occasionally drop there, giving players another reason to contest the area.

The new Gauntlet 1v1 mode is built around a simple rule: winners stay on to face the next challenger. Players can put their trophies on the line each round, tying the match’s individual results to its reward structure. It’s a more personal format than a team objective mode, with each round creating a direct test of who can hold their ground. Infinity Ward has also named Counter Attack as a mode planned for the mid-season update, without sharing more details yet.

DMZ gets new operators and an unexplored facility

DMZ’s Season 1 additions include two operators, XERO and Blix, alongside a new location for exploration. North Korean forces have established a presence at X01, an old Russian weapons facility near the edge of Hajin’s borders. New equipment and gear are available to find there, but the roadmap says those items start out classified.

Warzone’s season plans include Hajin and Zodiac, as well as the return of Verdansk and Rebirth Island. A fuller rundown of that mode is scheduled for Monday, November 2, so the current roadmap leaves questions about how those locations will fit into the update.

Battle pass and seasonal events

Wager Match is listed among the season’s events and includes Gauntlet 1v1. Players can risk their trophies in pursuit of rewards, including several weapon attachments. Another teased feature, Joint Fire, offers a major XP bonus for playing with a squad. The roadmap doesn’t give a date for that event, so its timing within the season remains to be seen.

The battle pass has a 100-tier track, and Infinity Ward says its new catch-up system guarantees at least 50 premium-pass rewards to anyone who buys it. That gives the pass a defined reward floor even for players who don’t complete every tier. Season 1 begins Friday, November 6, with more maps and modes expected at mid-season. The next details to watch are the Warzone rundown on November 2 and the timing of the later additions.
