WoW Midnight 12.1.5 Class Tuning: Druid, Mage and Warlock Buffs Arrive October 27

Feral Druids and Fire Mages gain 5% PvE damage, while Subtlety Rogues take an 8% cut in WoW’s October 27 class update.

WoW Midnight 12.1.5 Class Tuning: Druid, Mage and Warlock Buffs Arrive October 27

World of Warcraft’s October 27 class tuning puts a clear emphasis on PvE adjustments: several damage specs get stronger, Restoration Druids gain more help against dungeon burst, and Subtlety Rogues lose a substantial part of their damage. The changes follow the launch of Midnight patch 12.1.5, with a separate set of adjustments for competitive play.

World of Warcraft Midnight patch notes 12.1.5 class tuning update October 27 - A troll with giant horns roars, its eyes glowing bright blue, in the Blizzard MMORPG.

Blizzard Community Manager Bethany Hudson shared the class notes ahead of the weekly maintenance and reset on Tuesday, October 27. A couple of fixes have already arrived by hotfix: Enhancement Shaman’s Surging Elements should now display correctly in the Cooldown Manager, and some Warlock summons should no longer target enemies while their owners are out of combat.

Druids get damage and healing support

Feral Druids receive a 5% increase to all damage in PvE. It’s a broad adjustment, so it raises the spec’s overall output rather than targeting one named ability. For players choosing a specialization for the coming reset, that makes the change easy to account for: Feral’s damage numbers should rise across its PvE kit.

Restoration Druids get a more focused set of changes aimed at handling burst damage in dungeons, where the source says they have been trailing other healers. Verdancy healing increases by 60%, Regrowth healing goes up 10%, and Improved Swiftmend’s bonus rises from 30% to 40%. These adjustments apply only in PvE. The larger Verdancy increase stands out, while the Regrowth and Swiftmend changes add support to other parts of the healing toolkit.

Hunters, Mages and Warlocks pick up damage

Marksmanship Hunters receive several boosts, with area damage the stated concern. Explosive Shot and Volley each deal 10% more damage, and Trick Shots now increases the damage of Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire by 85%, up from 75%. Taken together, those adjustments target both area attacks and the two named shots affected by Trick Shots.

Fire Mages get a straightforward 5% increase to all PvE damage, matching the broad Feral Druid adjustment. That boost is limited to PvE, though Fire Mages also appear among the specs receiving a damage reduction in the separate PvP tuning. The two sets of changes serve different modes, so players will want to check which rules apply to the activities they play.

Affliction Warlocks deal 20% more damage with Unstable Affliction, with the increase excluded from PvP. Destruction Warlocks gain 20% more damage on Rain of Fire. Both changes focus on specific abilities rather than raising every part of each specialization’s damage, giving players a concrete pair of adjustments to watch after the reset.

Subtlety Rogues lose part of their recent boost

Subtlety Rogues are the only specialization listed for a PvE damage reduction this week. All ability damage falls by 8%, while the damage increase from Trickster: Fazed drops from 7% to 5%. Blizzard said the compensation buff that accompanied the 12.1.5 changes exceeded expectations, and that it is reversing a significant portion of that increase.

The adjustment is notable because it affects the specialization broadly as well as trimming a specific bonus. Rogues planning their next dungeon or raid sessions will need to account for both parts of the change. The notes don’t describe a new rotation or a replacement ability; they point instead to lower output across the kit and a smaller Trickster: Fazed increase.

PvP tuning covers a wider group

The PvP list includes buffs for Devourer Demon Hunters, Preservation Evokers, Marksmanship Hunters, Frost Mages, Mistweaver Monks, Holy Paladins, Holy Priests, Assassination Rogues and Restoration Shamans. Unholy Death Knights and Fire Mages receive reductions. The full details are available in Blizzard’s class tuning notes.

That spread makes the update relevant beyond the PvE changes that dominate the list. Marksmanship Hunters gain adjustments in both modes, while Fire Mages move in opposite directions: a PvE damage increase and a PvP reduction. Players who switch between dungeons, raids and competitive matches should check the details for their preferred mode before settling on a build.

All listed 12.1.5 class changes are scheduled to go live with the weekly maintenance on Tuesday, October 27. The update arrives as players await patch 12.2, Eclipse; the source also says WoW Forever is less than two weeks from its full launch. For the immediate reset, the clearest takeaways are stronger PvE damage for several specs, targeted dungeon healing support for Restoration Druids, and a substantial correction to Subtlety Rogue output.
